Growing Practices

We Care About the Earth

We all share this one life-supporting planet and feel called to do what we can to support her by stewarding this land we share.  We do so by choosing not to use synthetic chemicals or fertilizers, instead opting for regenerative practices of soil building to encourage healthy plant growth.
We apply compost, worm castings, and mulch to our beds and grow cover crops to feed the earth that feeds us. We provide habitats for beneficial insects as part of our integrated pest management and are thrilled to see a variety of birds, bats, amphibians, and reptiles living in and around our fields.
We believe in the importance of a just food system and make a point to donate produce to organizations like Farmer Foodshare that make sure food makes it to those who need it. We also love to support Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA, Carolina Farm Stewardship Association, and National Young Farmers Coalition and recognize the important work these folks do to grow vibrant and inclusive local food economies.
